My Holiday Dress – Pattern Review: Simplicity 1878
The Pattern Review Overview
This is a Simplicity 1787 pattern review…it’s a cute dress pattern with long and short sleeves…as well as sleeveless options. It also gives you 3 different length options. I am a huge fan of ModCloth and I wanted to start making more clothing like that to add to my wardrobe. So, Ta-Da! My Holiday dress idea was born!
- Really easy to use
- Great recommendations for finishing seams
- Some pieces didn’t fit together properly
- The fit was very very loose
- The collar was hemmed before the zipper was put in
Mixing it up
I stepped outside of the box with this pattern only to for some more shape to the fit. I took in the side seams to make it look a little less bag-like.
- I really need to start marking my patterns better
- Finishing seams with the zig-zag stitch
The full wrap up
I thought the pattern was cute and I’d use it again. It turned out great even though there was some imperfections to my finished product. It’s a nice, casual look…even if some think it looks more like a tunic than a nice dress.
Great costume uses for this pattern.
This pattern could yield a pretty cute 70s outfit if you used some cool funky fabric…Another great use would be to make Kiki’s dress from Kiki’s Delivery Service….all black, using the version with the sleeves. 🙂
Stay tuned for another pattern review in the future as I continue to increase my skills! You can buy the pattern from here or from any local craft store
