A Marvel-ous Proposal – Black Widow to marry Hawkeye

A Marvel-ous Proposal – Black Widow to marry Hawkeye

Many weeks leading up to DragonCon, my boyfriend Mike and I had been working very hard on our cosplays. For Mike, it was his Hawkeye and for me, I was finally making a Black Widow costume to be able to stand beside him. Of course, as with all cosplays, there’s issues and work arounds that have to be made and honestly I didn’t know if I even wanted to wear a costume that tight considering we hadn’t been able to go to the gym as much leading up to the con. I started getting a feeling that the costume was rather important to him, so I pushed on and made it wearable.

Metro KissesThe Thursday that we arrive in Atlanta for DragonCon, we always meet up with as many of our cosplay buds and head to the Metro Cafe for an all out night of Karaoke, drinking and good times. I had agreed to do our Black Widow/HawkEye photo shoot the following morning with our fav photographer and Mike (strangely) went to go scout out where we’d want to have it done. I mean, it kinda made sense to scout it out since the Hilton had all that construction going on, and it’s always a big place for photo shoots. When he got there, he was very specific on his instructions for Emily (Short Fuse Pinups photography). I notice now that he also spent more time than usual going around and talking to all the people we were with. As the night came to an end, we all went back to our hotel rooms and managed to get a good night of sleep.

The morning came and we were scrambling to get all of our stuff together and to get to the location for the shoot at the time we told our photographer…we run into a bunch of our friends there as well, and I find out that we’re going to actually be getting a group photo for once. Great! We never get a photo of all of us together, I’m thinking! That explains why we keep waiting on more people……

So, we all walk out to an area of the Hilton steps that, weirdly enough, is completely desolate of other people. Mike and I pose for a few photos and I’m thinking…why don’t we just go ahead and take the group photo so everyone isn’t just standing there watching us? So, after a few photos, I’m like “ok, everyone up here now!” and Mike says no. Why was Mike directing this photoshoot? I didn’t get it…

IMG_0176I turn around from looking at everyone and the next thing I know, he’s on one knee….and OMG….THIS IS HAPPENING!!!!

You know…I’m standing there…holding my Black Widow guns still in my hands….not really know what in the world to do with them. What a weird thing to thinking about when you’re being proposed to…What do I do with my guns? Throw them down? Nah, that’ll make too much noise, and it may break them…Do I put them in my holsters? Ok, yeah, I’ll put them in my holsters…awkwardly…while Mike is telling me about the story of getting his grandmother’s ring when he was home for his grandfather’s funeral…and of when he had already, many months ago, asked my father’s permission for my hand. Honestly, I felt like I couldn’t wait another second to give him my answer, when we asks me to marry him.

This was literally the happiest moment of my life and I shared it a place that we love, with friends who share that same love with me. It was completely perfect and I couldn’t have asked for a better proposal or a better man to give my heart to.
